In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Vengeance is constantly trying to make sure the viewer is always kept on their toes. At multiple points in the piece (Insert clip) we have false alarms which were intended to scare the audience and make them feel as though there is no place safe from this character. Our product also challenges the convention that the victim is completely innocent as opposed to the creature/ghost/bad guy. In our film we tried to give the idea that the ghost is innocent whereas it is the victim who is at fault. We also reinforced this as the ghost never actually harms the victim on screen leaving the end open for interpretation.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our piece represents the typical image of a bully picking on a smaller character. Originally we hoped to have an athletic actor who physically fit the role. This proved to be impractical as the actor we had in mind wasn't available when we wanted. Our first solution was to switch the roles so we could accommodate the actor. Ultimately the inevitable happened and the actor dropped out and so we had to make do with a actor who didn't fit the nerdy social group. We didn't deviate from a normal social group because we wanted as many people as possible to relate to our characters.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
One media institution that we would like to distribute our media product would be Hammer Film Productions. Hammer has history with horror even since the first Dracula and Curse of Frankenstein movies, even more recently they produced The Woman In Black and The Resident which were inspirations for our product. Not only would Hammer have the experience to sell our genre of film but it would effectively market our product to our target audience.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
How did you attract/address your audience?
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
For our piece we used a variety of technologies from software and hardware as well as web based technologies. using a relatively advanced piece of software such as final cut pro helped a lot in terms of getting the professional look to the piece. there were areas in the film where I thought that the final cut package was of particular assistance, for example this ghost fading scene where the ghost fades in and out but the background stays the same final cut enabled us to create the dissolve effects, smooth transitions and title sequences that look professional. We used different cameras for different pieces for example this title sequence was shot using a 720p camera phone because the other camera which we used for the rest gave us too much of a blur and we where looking for crisp, clear footage. we also used the tripod on an office chair as a sort of improvised dolly to allow us freedom of movement with our shots.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
From what we learned from the preliminary, we knew the importance of getting as much filming done as possible in one day as many things would change that were out of our control e.g lighting, continuity and especially in our main piece, appearance of the actors. (Insert continuity errors from clip) As you can see here we had a big problem with lighting, in this shot it was sunny outside when we needed it to be dark. From our preliminary we learned how to control the lighting to the extent that the audience wouldn't notice. Another thing we learned was that shots you have planned may not actually be possible so with our main piece we tried to keep all the shots modest and easy to do but at the same time not making the movie too dull.
